The income-tax department has created three dedicated email addresses for income taxpayers to register grievances related to Faceless Assessment, Faceless Penalty and Faceless Appeals Scheme.

The income-tax department has informed that in a move aimed to further improve taxpayer services in alignment with the Taxpayers’ Charter, the Income Tax Department creates dedicated e-mail ids for registering grievances in respect of pending cases under the Faceless Scheme.

Grievances can be furnished as under:

For Faceless assessmentssamadhan.faceless.assessment@incometax.gov.in
For Faceless penaltysamadhan.faceless.penalty@incometax.gov.in
For Faceless Appealssamadhan.faceless.appeal@incometax.gov.in

No more details are shared by the income-tax department about the nature of grievances and any time frame within which the grievances will be resolved. Further, it is also not clear whether the grievances will be resolved by NAFAC or jurisdictional AOs. Only the time will tell about the effectiveness of the system of raising grievances through the given e-mail IDs.

Readers are aware that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had released India’s first charter of taxpayers’ rights and duties on August 13, 2020 ahead of the 74th Independence Day while launching the platform for “Transparent Taxation - Honouring the Honest”.

He said that the faceless assessment and the taxpayers’ charter had been implemented from today, while the facility for faceless appeal would be available to the people of the country from 25 September, 2020.

The Faceless Assessment Scheme received a mention in the first budget tabled by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 5, 2019.

The objective of the Faceless Assessment is to completely eliminate the physical interface between the taxpayers and the tax officers to make tax administration objective, transparent and corruption-free.

The first Faceless Assessment Scheme was introduced in September 2019. The Faceless Appeal Scheme was notified on 25th September, 2020 and the Faceless Penalty Scheme was announced in January 2021.
